The inner lams are typically walnut and hard maple. This design offers excellent structural stability, an eye catching look, and allows more efficient use of the materials.<\/p>\n<p>Another advantage to a laminated neck is that the neck can be dressed up by using different woods and varying the widths of the lams. The pictures below show some examples.<\/p>\n<p>I typically stock Sapele and Spanish Cedar as alternatives to Honduran Mahogany for the primary neck wood. Sapele tends to be somewhat heavier and a darker brown compared to mahogany. Spanish Cedar is lighter in weight with a darker hue.<\/p>\n<p>There are many possibilities on a custom guitar.
